PERKS- Pre-Reading, Week 1
Intro
Hi everyone, welcome to book club. To kick off this pre-reading discussion tell us one reason why you picked this book over the others. Thanks!
Topic 1
One thing Charlie struggles with is the death of his friend Michael. Some people call suicide "a cry for help." Some call it a "selfish act." What would you call it? Would you call it something else? Explain...
Topic 2
Perks is a book with many intense themes. What would you do/ feel/ say if a friend "came out" to you as a homosexual? Or, What would your friends do/ feel/ say if you "came out" to them as a homosexual?

PERKS- Week 2
Hi everyone, so all of us should have read up to around page 70.
I'd like this weeks discussion to focus on what all of you think is important about the book.
So my questions for everyone are...
1. What is the most important event(s) you remember from this weeks reading?
2. Why do you think it's important?
3. Does it help character or plot development?
4. Does the event link to an important theme or message?
-Please include the page numbers for your event so the group can reference what you're talking about.
-And make sure you comment on other people's event ideas so we can have a deeper discussion.

PERKS- Week 3
Hi everyone, I hope you're enjoying Perks so far. Hard to believe it's week 3 already!
- This week I'd like everyone to create a post for the group that asks an insightful question based on pages 1-155.
-Your question should address key thematic, character and plot issues.
-Find an image on line as a visual to include in your post.
Please comment on each other's questions and images so we can have a meaningful discussion about the book. Thanks!

Here's my question...
From "The Catcher in the Rye" by J. D. Salinger to The Rocky Horror Picture Show to Nirvana to The Smiths’ song “Asleep,” Charlie references numerous pieces of literature, film, and music. How did these references shape your reading? Why are they so important to Charlie?
