Reality Check: Finding a Job / Career you Enjoy with Employment Potential
Part 1: Research the Job Market
- Based on your interests (inspirations) and motivations think of 3 jobs (work fields / job markets) you can think of entering.
- Do a Google search for things like "highest employment rate jobs", "best jobs for recent grads" and "good work fields to get into".
- Find articles like Canada’s Best Jobs 2015: The Top 20 Jobs
- Write the main bullet points you learn from your research on your Careers webpage in a section called "My Job Market Info".
Part 2: Web Search for Jobs
- Visit websites that allow you to search for jobs such as:
- The Economist Jobs Board (International Job Listings)
- Workopolis
- Monster
- indeed
- You may Google search "job search/ listings" to find other sites.
- Enter 3 jobs into the search and document your results on your Careers webpage in a section called "My Job Search Results".
Part 3: Post Secondary Programs
- Select one job (career / work field) and research post secondary schools & programs that prepare you for the career.
- Document 4 post secondary schools and programs on your Careers webpage in a section called "My Post Secondary Plan".
- It will be important to also note what high school credits/ courses are required for you to apply
- You should also record the mark required for acceptance
Part 4: Your High School Plan
- Document the high school courses you need to take in grades 11 & 12 to be eligible to apply to your post secondary program(s).
- Write these courses on your Careers webpage in a section called "My High School Plan"
